Enlighteners of Kazakh land are Mussa Shormanov and Abikey Satpayev.
There are two monuments of great educators of Kazakh land Mussa Shormanov and Abikey Satpayev in front of the Pavlodar State Pedagogical Institute.
In these “velvet”days of August, bronze statues are witnesses of happiness for thousands of students, who enter PSPI. Heaps of fresh flowers are a tribute of grateful descendants.
A curious student is in big question, who these people are, immortalized in bronze, what their role in education is and how their fates have been evolved. Opening the pages of history today, we learn that the origins of the Pavlodar education of XIX century were splendidly educated.
Abikey Satpayev (1881-1937) is a Kazakh progressive educator, scholar, director of Pavlodar Kazakhstan-Russian School, the first director of Semipalatinsk Pedagogical School, that time the only in Kazakhstan, a close relative of K.I.Satpaev, who is a founder of Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan. Successfully proving himself at pedagogical career, running as a teacher to the first director of pedagogical technical school in Kazakhstan, he took active part in political and public life of Kazakhstan, although the political activity did not become his life-work, but formed integral steady character. Wherever he worked, he always was able to defend his views before those who were in power.
"The basis of good things is knowledge. And our noble goal is not put out awakening of people striving for it. As a child learns to walk, so people, step by step, should be followed forward and enjoy each an awakening soul”, - wrote Abikey Satpayev. Educational activities were his vocation; he could not imagine himself out of school, seeing in education the only way to liberation - "if we bring benefits by labor, give a good education, knowledge to people, open our eyes to life, all obstacles in achieving the objectives will be insignificant.
The name of Abikey Satpayev was wrongly sunk into oblivion. But the bright image of him was kept by those who knew him, those who studied under him. He lives in the affairs of his students.
Shormanov Mussa (1818-1884) is an enlightener, outstanding social activist, folklorist, author of ethnographic, historical works about the Kazakhs of Pavlodar district, a close relative of the outstanding progressive thinker and educator of Kazakh people, big traveler and explorer of Central Asia Shokhan Valikhanov.
Folk memory in spite of the official history through slander and prohibitions of time has carried his bright name. Mussa Shormanova was named “Ulken myrza” among people for generosity and magnanimity. Outstanding public figure, the ruler of Akmola township, county assessor of Bayanaul county, and then senior sultan of Bayanaul Order was an ardent advocate of the ideas of Kazakh youth through organizing a gymnasium, adapted to the conditions of nomadic Kazakhs. Attracting wealthy Kazakhs to collect donations for charitable institutions as orphanages, almshouses and boarding of Kazakh girls, at his own expense he built medresse and mosque in Bayanaul, encouraged the opening of Russian schools for Kazakh children in Omsk and Pavlodar cities.
He could take place as a brilliant scientist; the numbers of scientific papers are witnesses that could make up the glory of any ethnographer who have not lost relevance today. Mussa Shormanov showed deep interest in preserving the heritage of his nation.
He was the center of cultural and social life of his region, he caused a great love and esteem in various circles of society, being the greatest authority for all.
